History

The history of The Dueling Club began on July 8, 2003 when it officially went online.

The Beginnings

It all began in around April of 2003 when I decided to make a Harry Potter site. I already had experience in making websites and the idea of making a Harry Potter one was not new. But in 2003 my interest was renewed and I actually had the means to make a site and maintain it for viewers. The name of the site was probably the hardest thing for me to come up with. It originally was to be an awards site with the name of Nimbus Awards. Than it mutated into an RPG site entitled Godric's Hollow. After realizing that name was taken, it was renamed into The Harry Potter Château and than into The Harry Potter Underground. After more confusion one title finally stuck: The Dueling Club.

Changes

Many "site-changing" changes occurred after Version 1.2 came out. The first of these changes was to change the site from a RPG-only site to a general site. With that we started posting news about the Harry Potter world, as well as including content about Harry Potter and expanding the forums to include general discussion, as well as RPGs. Than we finally changed servers (to 1and1.com via a free promotion), got a domain name, and changed our free forums to one hosted on our server. We than included many other services including a Top Sites List, but it happened that the TSL crashed our server and we decided to move to a better server, PersonalSites.org with which we are still hosted. Around March or April of 2005 I went on a hiatus because of school. Suprisingly the hits kept up and the forums became more active. I came back around July of the same year and shifted the site (finally) into Version 2.0.

Version History:

Version 1.0

Version 1
See it in 1024 x 768

I started out with a design layout downloaded from somewhere in the deep abyss of the 'Net. I then realized that if there was to be a chance for the Dueling Club I'd have to make one of his own. And like that Version 1.0 came into being. (July 2003 - Aug 2003)

Version 1.2

Version 1.2
See it in 1280 x 1024

Version 1.2 came about because I felt that Version 1.0 was a insignificant layout, and that it had many faults. I then went to Colourfun.com where I got the banner made. Using that banner and tables, I created this layout. Despite the fact that I disliked this layout it won praise from many. In the end it lasted 2 years. (Aug 2003- Aug 2005)

Unfinished - Unnamed

This version was the result of a sudden inspiriation of mine which turned out to be one of the biggest flop. Besides the fact that it never achieved the fluidity of other layouts, I never could get it to be optimized to load in decent time amount. Plus I stopped liking it. In short it was wasted time for our graphic designers and me.

Unreleased - POA Version

Unfinished-POA Version
See it in 1280 x 1024

This version was almost released but than I went on hiatus. When I came back I was against this layout for few reasons. One it was graphic intensive, not fluid enough and secondly it looked too much like most of the other sites out there. And since most of those sites went down without ever returning I decided not to use this layout.

Version 2.0

Current Layout

This layout is the only layout I, the webmaster, designed by myself. It's theme is the Goblet of Fire movie, and is not graphic intensive as others, more fluid and it looks more "solid" than Version 1.2. Another reason is that this version was implemented before I had a chance to kill it. (Aug 2005 - present)
